On February 14th, from noon to 2 PM, Prairie Woods Audubon Society and the Vehe Farm Foundation hosted the second annual Great Backyard Bird Count at Vehe Farm. This event associated with the National Audubon Society was held as part of Deer Park's Leave No Child Inside initiative. A dedicated group of parents, children, and Audubon Society guides walked the property, counted and identified the number and species of birds they saw. Data from Vehe Farm will be sent to Cornell Lab of Ornithology to be compiled with data from all other Great Backyard Bird Count sites around the country. Prairie Woods Audubon donated folders containing birding information, birding activities, and educational birding material to all the children who attended the event.
